Be Like Water are a six-piece original band from Wiltshire, England.

Built around the musical conversation between Lee Knott’s raw, soulful voice and songwriting and Adriana Saliu’s piano and composition, the band brings together Gavin Loynes (drums), Rob Hibberd (bass), Shaun Barry  (guitar) and Alex Ryan (saxophone).

Their sound moves through art rock, soul, blues, jazz and psychedelia: piano-led, rhythmically adventurous and cinematic, but always rooted in experience.

Be Like Water can be intimate one moment and enormous the next. Odd metres and polyrhythms sit alongside memorable melodies; piano, guitar and saxophone move between beauty and abrasion; and the arrangements leave space for six very different musicians to affect what happens.

This is music made through conversation rather than formula.

It Ain’t Over lives in the space between two people who love one another but don’t always experience the same road in the same way.

Dark, seductive and playful, the song turns temptation inward: anger, appetite, avoidance, impulse. 

Be Like Water are a live band at heart: six musicians listening, reacting and leaving enough space in the music for something unexpected to happen.

STEALING HORSES

Be Like Water are currently creating their debut album, Stealing Horses.

The album is developing alongside a cinematic visual world in which the band’s songs become part road movie, part fable and part psychological landscape.

At its centre are Madame Diabolique and Monsieur Magnifique — alter egos of Adriana and Lee — whose strange journey begins the same way the real music does:

a note played on a piano, and a voice answering it.

As the journey continues, other musicians appear. Eventually six travellers become six musicians and the fictional world begins to collide with the real band.

Stealing Horses is about connection without captivity; freedom without disappearance; and the strange business of trying to remain yourself while making something with other people.

It is currently in development.
